My name is Edwin R Schottstaedt and I want to thank you for your interest in my work. I am a self-taught panoramic and landscape photographer specializing in high-quality, limited-edition photographic prints. My journey began in the days of analog film with my father's legendary Nikon F and a 50mm Nikkor lens. By age 25, I transitioned into larger formats, shooting extensively with a Mamiya C220 TLR and a Pentax 6x7 system utilizing 55mm, 75mm, 90mm leaf shutter, and 165mm lenses. I later acquired a Mamiya 7II system with 43mm, 50mm, and 65mm lenses—a legendary medium-format platform that delivered truly amazing clarity and a lifelong love for vibrant analog palettes.
My modern process directly bridges that pinnacle of medium-format digital capture with gallery-grade printing. Every panoramic "panoscape" begins with the incredible resolving power of the Fujifilm GFX camera system. By positioning the camera vertically for single rows or horizontally for complex multi-row matrix brackets, I overlap and stitch up to 50 individual exposures into massive master files using PTGui software. This high-end workflow preserves the tiniest details and produces blisteringly sharp, ultra-high-resolution textures that easily far exceed the quality boundaries of traditional film.
To translate this intense level of detail from the screen to physical art, I print exclusively using a professional Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 wide-format system. Utilizing a 12-color LUCIA PRO archival pigment ink array paired with a specialized Chroma Optimizer, it perfectly mirrors the deep shadow depth and rich color saturation of my classic slide film days. Whether face-mounted on high-gloss metal or wrapped on archival gallery canvas, the final result is a breathtaking, fade-resistant print holding flawless clarity at grand scales up to 48x96 inches.
